Graduation Ceremony | English Access Microscholarship Program – Sheikhan
FYF proudly marked the closure of the English Access Program in Sheikhan, celebrating the achievements of 122 young students who completed an intensive journey of learning, growth, and community engagement. Implemented with the generous support of the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, the program aimed to equip youth aged 13–16 from vulnerable IDP and host communities with the skills they need to shape brighter futures.
Over 2 years, students participated in interactive English language classes designed to build not only linguistic proficiency but also confidence and personal development. Alongside language learning, they developed digital literacy skills, explored teamwork and leadership, and strengthened their critical thinking abilities through presentations, discussions, and collaborative projects.
Teachers and program staff witnessed remarkable transformation. Many students began the program with limited confidence in expressing themselves, yet gradually became active participants — sharing ideas, working collaboratively, and demonstrating curiosity and initiative. Their progress reflects both their dedication and the supportive learning environment created throughout the program.
“This program has helped me build new friendships and grow in confidence and leadership. My English has also improved a lot.”
Ahlam, Student
The closure event brought together students, families, educators, and partners to celebrate this milestone. Certificates were awarded in recognition of students’ hard work and commitment, while speakers highlighted the importance of investing in youth education as a pathway to resilience, opportunity, and long-term community development.
While the ceremony marked the conclusion of this chapter, it also signaled new beginnings. Equipped with stronger skills, broader perspectives, and renewed confidence, these young students are now better prepared to pursue higher education, access new opportunities, and contribute positively to their communities.
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of teachers, the support of families, and the partnership of the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil.
Together, we celebrate not only the end of a program, but the start of many promising journeys ahead.
