Suna Haji
Justice Officer
Suna Haji is a dedicated Justice Officer, originally from Sinjar. She was displaced to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in 2014 following the ISIS attack on her hometown. Suna holds a Bachelor's degree in Basic Education, English Department, from the University of Duhok.
With a strong background in humanitarian work, Suna has held various roles across the protection, education, psychosocial support, and legal aid sectors. Her experience includes supporting vulnerable communities through case management, referrals, and access to essential services, with a consistent focus on the needs of women and children affected by conflict.
At FYF, Suna conducts in-depth interviews with Yezidi survivors of ISIS atrocities as part of a documentation project aimed at advancing accountability for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed in Iraq and Syria. In addition to survivor interviews, she is responsible for translating witness statements from Kurmanji to English and tracking information related to suspected perpetrators.
Suna has completed intensive training in trauma-informed interviewing, victim-centered approaches, and investigative methodologies. She is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, and English, and brings strong communication, leadership, and technical skills to her role.
Her work is a vital part of FYF’s efforts to support justice and reparations for Yezidi survivors and to ensure that their voices are heard in national and international accountability processes.
