Meet Dirok Mohammed Saed: A Story of Resilience and Growth
At just 19 years old, Dirok Mohammed Saed’s journey has been marked by resilience and determination. Originally from Malkya, Syria, Dirok’s early life was shaped by challenges that many refugees face. Born in displacement in Saudi Arabia, he studied in international schools before his family was forced to leave due to systemic discrimination. Unable to return, they made their way to Kurdistan, Iraq, through difficult circumstances.
Settling in Sheikhan, Dirok’s family endured numerous hardships, including financial instability and a lack of sufficient aid. His father, once the family’s cornerstone of support, was unable to work due to illness, compounding their struggles. Despite these adversities, Dirok remained determined to pursue his education, cycling through five different schools with varying curricula and languages.
In the face of these challenges, Dirok found hope through the Free Yezidi Foundation’s English Access Microscholarship program in Sheikhan. The program provides him with language skills and invaluable social and life skills. Over the past 10 months, Dirok has transformed into a confident, socially adept individual, eager to make a positive impact on his community.
“FYF has supported me socially and in gaining knowledge and communication skills. It has given me opportunities to meet new people and learn from them,” Dirok shares.
His aspirations are as inspiring as his journey. Dirok dreams of becoming an expert in his field and hopes to support others just as he has been supported. He envisions a brighter future for his family and himself and is determined to turn those dreams into reality.
FYF is proud to be a part of Dirok’s journey, equipping him with the tools to overcome obstacles and achieve his potential. Dirok’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of education and support.
