The Memory of My Son

I am Fluz Ibrahim Faris, and I am from Sinjar. I currently live in the camp with my two sons and five daughters. ISIS killed my oldest son, father of a young child. My most cherished memories are of my oldest son. He wasn’t just a son, he was my best friend, brother, father and everything else. His memories are what keeps me going and it is for his son, my grandson, that I live and work.

I am a proud Yezidi. First and foremost, I am proud of my religion; second, my children, who are doing their best in school despite our terrible living situation in the camp and third, my grandson. I am doing everything in my power to meet every single need he has in order for him to feel his father’s presence in his life and for his father’s soul to rest in peace! My greatest ambition is to raise my children and grandson in the best way possible, without relying on anyone. I am grateful for the work FYF does for us. Every time we sell a large number of crafts, we earn revenues that help us cover our monthly expenses. As a result, the more we sell, the more we benefit our families and children.

I hope people get the know us Yezidis better, we never let anyone down, regardless of how difficult the work is. To prevent degrading ourselves, we work hard to acquire money and provide for our families. Aside from that, I hope people get to know our hospitality. Everyone who comes to visit the Yezidis is warmly welcomed.

Personally, I hope to be here in five years to continue this profession or to live abroad. Going back to Sinjar is out of the question because there is no safety and peace, and our house was purposely set on fire by ISIS, leaving us with nowhere to live even if we returned to Sinjar.

Last but not least, I’d want to thank everyone, especially those who aid vulnerable groups and spend their time and efforts to helping and supporting them, as well as those who try to comprehend the sadness and sorrows of Yezidis. Furthermore, those who assist us by purchasing things, because the more orders we receive, the better we can help our families.

Support our work!
