PROTECTION
Yezidi survivors of genocide and sexual violence, as well as female survivors from other minority groups in Iraq, are in critical need of consistent and reliable structured mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to heal and recover. FYF’s women-led protection team of 16 dedicated professionals will continue and expand upon its survivor-centered, do-no-harm MHPSS service provision, targeting those most vulnerable.
PROTECTION PRIORITIES
- Case management.
- Individual and group therapy.
- Recreational psychosocial support (PSS), including yoga and arts and crafts.
- Psychoeducation sessions on PTSD, stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Provide access to higher education courses with established international partner to facilitate pathways to post-secondary learning for Yezidis and minority women.
- Rights awareness sessions on women's and minorities' rights in the KRI and Federal Iraq.
- Legal aid, including support to access reparations under the Yezidi Survivors Law (YSL), child custody, divorce rights, civil documentation, etc.
- Outreach on men's engagement, including positive masculinity, anger management, and prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
- Outreach on prevention of SGBV and child, early, and forced marriage and unions (CEFMU).
- Outreach on the YSL.
MEASURING IMPACT
FYF measures successful achievement of its protection work by the number of protection services provided to women and survivors, including the improved wellbeing demonstrated by beneficiaries.
