Yezidis Commemorate International Day for the Victims of Genocide
On International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide, we solemnly honor the lives lost and forever changed by the 2014 Yezidi Genocide. Today is a poignant reminder that genocide is not an isolated event but an enduring process of marginalization, violence, and resource deprivation.
Today, nearly 200,000 Yezidis remain internally displaced, with over 2,600 Yezidi women and children still missing or enslaved. Dozens of mass graves await exhumation, and justice remains an abstract hope for the Yezidi community.
We cannot turn away from the Yezidis, as we did in August 2014. Abandonment is not an option. We must stand in solidarity, committed to ensuring their safety, dignity, and human rights. The time to act is now.
