Galina’s Journey: From Displacement to Home
Galina was only 10 years old when ISIS attacked her village during the 2014 Yezidi Genocide. For the past decade, she and her family lived in displacement at Khanke camp, facing extremely difficult living conditions.
Last year, Galina joined one of the Free Yezidi Foundation’s vocational training programs, where she discovered her passion and talent for handmade crafts. From blouses and scarves to adorable Chonky animals like turtles and jellyfish, her work quickly stood out, and the income from selling them supported her financially.
Recently, Galina returned to her hometown in Sinjar for the first time in 10 years. While she’s happy to be home, she hopes to continue doing what she loves—crafting beautiful, handmade items that bring joy and help support her family.
