FYF’s Bakery Worker Shares Impact of FYF’s Livelihoods and Education Programming on Her Mental Wellbeing and Financial Security
“I am a Yezidi IDP who lives in Khanke IDP camp. Before the Yezidi genocide, I used to live with my family in Dugure village in Sinjar, where I enjoyed a peaceful life surrounded by my relatives and friends. I always wanted to go to school to learn how to read and write, but I never had the chance due to being impoverished and always having to work in the fields. After the genocide, our life drastically changed when we fled Sinjar. Since then, we have been living as IDPs in unstable and mentally difficult conditions.
FYF has contributed to my life personally and professionally because I always wanted to develop myself and find better opportunities to support my family. I was elated when I was given the chance to become a bakery worker at FYF’s Sugar is Sweet Bakery. In addition to earning an income, I am also taking Arabic classes provided by FYF. I believe that if I ever want to open my own business, learning to read and write in Arabic is a good first step.
I feel so comfortable and supported by all the staff at FYF’s Enterprise and Training Center.”
