FYF Meets Mazloum Abdi and SDF officials in NE Syria

Hasekeh, Northeast Syria

FYF visited the authorities in the Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria (AANES) to review several topics of importance to the Yezidi community. During the visit, the FYF team met with several civilian and military officials, including Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Chief Mouzlem Abdi and YPJ leader Newroz Ahmed.

In the meetings, FYF sought further details about the process by which missing Yezidi women and children, including those in Al-Hol camp, can be identified and rescued. Bringing back missing Yezidis is a top priority for the community. Further, crime scenes in Northeast Syria are of interest to FYF’s pursuit of justice and accountability. These topics were discussed in further detail, with the hope of information on perpetrators or events in certain locations. Finally, the presence of tens of thousands of ISIS members and affiliates held in SDF custody was addressed. The absence of justice mechanisms to evaluate the crimes perpetrated by ISIS members is a significant problem in the aftermath of mass atrocities like the Yezidi Genocide.

FYF seeks to work with stakeholders who are able to assist in advancing FYF’s humanitarian and human rights priorities.
