FYF hosts Dutch delegation & Yezidi organizations
Khanke, Duhok.
Today the Netherlands Human Rights Ambassador Bahia Tahzib-Lie visited FYF’s Enterprise & Training Center for a private meeting with Yezidi organizations and to see the living conditions of the Yezidi IDP community.
In the meeting, FYF and other Yezidi organizations highlighted the continuing challenges facing Yezidis who seek to return to their areas of origin in and around SInjar, as well as the trauma and hopelessness associated with prolonged displacement and lack of opportunity.
FYF and the other organizations stressed the importance of foreign countries and the donor community providing support directly to Yezidi civil society, rather than only to large international NGOs, with a view to empowering growth and development within the community.
Ambassador Tahzib-Lie and the delegation expressed interest in the issue of Yezidi land rights, including in Sinjar, as well as how Yezidi survivors can access their right to reparations under the Yezidi Survivors’ Law without being retraumatized. The delegation expressed solidarity with the Yezidi community and emphasized the importance of such private meetings so that civil society can share its views and opinions with diplomats.
Participating in the meeting along with FYF (in alphabetical order) were:
– Eyzidi Organization for Documentation
– Sinjar Academy
