The Jewish Activism Summer School (JASS) cordially invites you to an event to close the Jewish day of mourning, Tisha B’av, at Oranienburgerstraße Synagogue. Exploring alternative ways to commemorate this day of fasting, we begin with a keynote speech by Pari Ibrahim, a Yezidi activist, founder and director of The Free Yezidi Foundation. The non-profit, established shortly after the start of genocidal persecution by ISIS against the Yezidi people in August 2014, helps the most vulnerable members of the Yezidi community in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. After Ms. Ibrahim’s speech, Rabbi Gesa Ederberg will tell a brief history of the synagogue, followed by a meditation and a recitation of poems and songs led by Rabbinical students of Yeshivat Maharat (New York), Yeshivat Chovevei Torah (New York), and Geiger Kolleg (Berlin).
