Empowering Progress: Canadian Ambassador Visits FYF to Witness Impactful Change

This week, FYF had the privilege of welcoming the Canadian Ambassador to Iraq, Christopher Boehm, to our Enterprise and Training Center (ETC) in Khanke, Duhok. During his visit, we showcased the transformative impact of the Canadian Embassy’s support for our education and livelihoods programs.

Ambassador Boehm toured the ETC, learning about FYF’s holistic approach to recovery. We highlighted initiatives like the Chonky Animals, Crafts and Enterprise, and bakery training livelihoods programs, which are enhanced by educational courses and vital services such as protection, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and legal aid.

The discussions emphasized FYF’s progress made in empowering Yezidi women—creating income-generation opportunities and normalizing women’s roles in the workforce. At the same time, we discussed the persistent challenges facing the Yezidi community, including protracted displacement, hate speech, and the ongoing need to champion women’s rights and empowerment.

Ambassador Boehm’s positive engagement and encouragement left us hopeful for future collaboration. Thank you, Canada, for standing with FYF and supporting the resilience and recovery of the Yezidi community.
