Dutch Theater Highlights Yezidi Genocide

Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

For the last several weeks, the renowned Dutch theater group Toneelgroep Maastricht has been running a play, entitled Schuld, about the Yezidi genocide and the experience of survivors.

The theater group traveled to Iraq to visit the FYF Enterprise & Training Center in preparation for the play, and custom ordered a number of hand-crafted rugs and carpets as backdrop for the production, as can be seen in the photos. According to Sarah Nixon, of the play’s production team, the audience was told that these pieces were hand-made by Yezidis. She relayed to FYF:

“I wish you and your amazing, talented artist weavers could have seen the result and could have heard the reactions from the audience. We had so many people who were moved and also shocked by this story. And to learn more about the story of the Yezidi people. I am grateful that the audience could see on stage something that actually came from Iraqi Kurdistan and was made by Yezidi hands. We received many, many compliments on the amazing carpets.”
