Daren’s Story: Growing Stronger Through Education
Daren Ezzat is a 17-year-old high school student. She grew up in Sinjar, enjoying a happy childhood —living in a small, simple house where her father worked as a farmer. Life back then was peaceful, full of love and warmth. Since 2014, however, Daren and her family have been living in displacement in Sheikhan.
Everything changed after the Yezidi Genocide. Families, neighbors, and friends were torn apart, and Daren’s family was forced to leave their home. Although she was very young at the time, Daren still recalls the pain and fear of those days. But over the past year, the English Access Program has offered her a powerful source of growth and change.
“The program has had a truly positive impact on my life. It has opened a door for learning, friendship, and personal development. I see how this program supports us in many ways—from helping us academically to building our confidence for the future.”
Most importantly, the program has helped her make new friends and build meaningful, lasting connections.
“I have been participating in this program for over a year now. This opportunity means a lot to me. It has allowed me to improve my English skills and even help others learn. Being part of the program has also helped me make new friends and feel more connected to people my age.”
For Daren, the program is more than just an educational opportunity. It is a chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people like her, and she hopes it will continue to inspire and support future generations.
