Celebrating the Iraqi Female Changemakers
After more than a year of learning, advocacy, and community engagement, 48 women and girls from Sharya, Khanke and Sheikhan have completed the Iraqi Female Changemakers program.
Throughout the program, Changemakers explored issues shaping the lives of women and girls in their communities, including child marriage, violence against women, discrimination, employment, and women’s civic and political participation. Together, they strengthened their understanding of these challenges while building the knowledge, confidence, and skills to advocate for change.
They put that learning into practice by leading awareness activities, engaging with community members and institutions, developing advocacy messages, and designing practical initiatives to address the barriers facing women and girls. By connecting with local policymakers, community leaders, and fellow activists, they have taken meaningful steps to amplify the voices of minority women and influence conversations within their communities. Beyond the advocacy skills they gained, the participants built lasting relationships with one another, creating a network of support that will continue long after the program’s completion. Equipped with new tools, experience, and stronger connections, these Changemakers are well positioned to continue leading community-driven initiatives and advancing positive change.
The Iraqi Female Changemakers project spans nine locations across Iraq and is implemented through a consortium of female-led Iraqi NGOs, including Asuda, Baghdad Women Association, WANi Organization, and Al-Taqwa Association for Woman and Child Rights.
We are proud of each and single one of these changemakers for their dedication, courage, and commitment to creating positive change.
