FYF Visit to Al-Hol Camp
Al-Hol Camp, Northeast Syria
FYF visited the infamous Al-Hol camp, in Northeast Syria, which houses more than 50,000 residents affiliated with ISIS. FYF and others continue to search for the more than 2,500 Yezidis who remain missing and unaccounted for in the aftermath of the Yezidi Genocide perpetrated by ISIS.
The purpose of the visit was both to understand how to scale up rescue efforts of missing Yezidis and to improve the flow of information related to justice and accountability for the crimes committed by male and female ISIS members.
The situation in Al-Hol was shocking, with ISIS members in charge of camp life for residents, enforcing their own standards of internal social rules. This poses challenges for the US-allied forces, the SDF, who control security outside of the camp. In terms of security, justice, and the search for missing Yezidis, the current arrangement poses significant challenges. FYF urges the international community to identify solutions to stem the continued radicalization and focus on justice, accountability, and the rescue of missing Yezidis within the camp.
FYF will maintain its efforts to search for missing Yezidis, no matter how long it takes and no matter where they are located. Those who are missing are not lost forever.
