FYF hosts UNITAD, meets officials in New York
The Free Yezidi Foundation hosted the Head of UNITAD and his staff members in a meeting with civil society in New York. Amnesty International kindly allowed FYF to use its New York office to host the event, which was led by FYF Executive Director Pari Ibrahim and Yezidi activist Murad Ismael. In addition to Amnesty International staff, also present were Human Rights Watch, Global Justice Center, Cardozo Law School, and others. The off-record two hour discussion gave UNITAD officials a chance to discuss progress, successes, and challenges in the pursuit of justice and accountability for ISIS crimes against Yezidis.
Separately, Pari Ibrahim and Murad Ismael met with a senior delegation at the United States Mission to the UN to discuss the Sinjar Agreement and other matters; and with United Nations officials focusing on Iraq as well. Issues ranging from justice and accountability to prolonged displacement and security in Sinjar were discussed.
